The Historical GIS Lab is welcomes visiting scholar Dr. Roberto García Ruiz during the month of August, 2012. A member of the Ecology Section, Department of Animal Biology, Plant Biology and Ecology at the University of Jaén in Spain, Dr. García is a specialist in the biogeochemistry of historical agroecosystems. While visiting the University of Saskatchewan he is working with Dr. Geoff Cunfer on an analysis of soil fertility management and soil nutrient fluxes on Great Plains farms during the settlement era, 1870-1940. Dr. García is a collaborator on the Sustainable Farm Systems project and for several years has worked closely with environmental and agricultural historians at Pablo de Olavide University in Andalucía, Spain. This month the HGIS Lab and Dr. Cunfer are pleased to benefit from his expertise.
